Raiders have 5th pick; Blades give away 1st overall—again

Mar 25, 2015 | 3:40 PM

The Prince Albert Raiders were unaffected by the 2015 Bantam Draft Lottery on Wednesday and will hold their original position at fifth overall.

The Raiders will also have the 20th overall pick they acquired from the Kelowna Rockets in the Leon Draisaitl trade, and the 27th overall draft choice early in the second round.

The Saskatoon Blades won the lottery, but since they surrendered their first round choice to the Spokane Chiefs on Jan. 10, 2013 in the Collin Valcourt trade, the Chiefs will be granted the first overall choice.

That marks the second consecutive year the Blades have won the lottery, but had previously traded that pick away. The Blades dealt the 2014 first round pick to the Brandon Wheat Kings in the Brendan Walker deal, which ended up being the first overall selection. The Wheaties drafted Stelios Mattheos with the number one pick.
