Police ask youth to name that K9

Mar 25, 2015 | 6:44 AM

EDITOR’S NOTE: Only Prince Albert residents can submit ideas for the dog’s new name.

The Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) is welcoming a new four-legged officer into the fold.

The new K9, which is currently nameless, was adopted by the PAPS and has been paired with Cst. Mike Chow.  Chow has lived with big dogs in the past and has welcomed his new partner into his working life as well as his home.

The K9 will be replacing Jagger, who will be going into a well-deserved retirement.

He will need some training before he hits the streets in and around Prince Albert. Training lasts about four months and the two will train together to strengthen their personal and professional bond.

The PAPS wants the public to help come up with a name for this new addition.

Participants must be 16 years or younger, the name suggested can have no more than eight letters and two syllables and it must fit with a German Shepherd.

The contest runs until April 27 and the prize is a picture with the new K9 and a PAPS K9 Unit custom-fitted t-shirt.

Send your submissions to newK9@papolice.ca.
