Regionals in Kinistino nets girls a trip to Hoopla

The Kinistino Blues senior girls’ basketball team have done it again.

They have earned a trip to Hoopla and are expected to bring back another provincial gold.

Both girls and boys senior basketball teams were given the opportunity to host regional finals in their home gym on the weekend.

The tournament began with the girls playing strong against Lashburn.

The game started with Kinistino easily scoring and defending their end of the court, but midway through Lashburn found their groove and played very strong.

In the end, Kinistino put their offensive and defensive games together and won 78-40.

This qualified them to play against Hague – a team Kinistino knows well having played them twice in regionals and once at a previous Hoopla.

This game was much the same, with Kinistino girls turning in a strong overall performance.

“We are really peaking at the right time,” said coach, Bill Yeaman.

“Corre Van Burgsteden has played well all year, but a light-bulb really came on for her this weekend and she was unstoppable …the girls just put it all together, so I am extremely confident we will do well at Hoopla.”

The girls will play their first game of Hoopla against Southey, but they are not worried, Yeaman said.

“Our girls also have the advantage of having extensive Hoopla experience so they are not intimidated. We took silver last year – but the girls are ready to go in and take home the gold.”

The boys’ team worked hard to make it to regions, said coach, Adam Svenkenson, but they came up short in the finals and are done for the season.
