Alcohol continues to factor in crime

A teenage girl is facing charges after a break and enter at a Prince Albert business, this morning.

Just before 3:30 a.m. an alarm went off at the property on the 300 block of 17th Street West.

According to police an employee responded to the alarm, saw the door was smashed in and that somebody was inside.

Sgt. Kelly McLean with the Prince Albert Police Service said the employee then called the police.

“An intoxicated 14-year-old female was arrested inside the business by responding officers,” McLean said.

She is to appear in court today charged with Break and Enter, Willful Damage and Obstruction.

The Prince Albert Police Force consistently deals with cases involving intoxicated persons every week.

McLean said many times the majority of calls that officers respond to during a weekend had a connection to intoxicated persons.

“That’s what our statistical data show us. If our statistical data showed us that the majority of calls were for vehicles with their taillights out then I’d be happy to stand up here and tell you that, but our statistical data show us that it is intoxicated persons,” McLean said.

An accident on the weekend involving a stolen vehicle was another case where the person was intoxicated.

The vehicle was taken from the 400 block of 12th Street East on Sunday.

According to police, the owner heard the theft and followed in another vehicle while the police were notified.

Officers attempted to stop the stolen vehicle at which point the driver crashed into a tree, rolling the vehicle and then striking a light.

Police arrested Roy Charles from Montreal Lake after he fled vehicle on foot.

Charles is facing charges including theft over $5,000, impaired driving, refusing to provide a breath sample and failing to stop for police. He will be in court in April.

Total damages in the rollover were totaled more than $20,000.
