Province asked to air dirty laundry in court

Mar 13, 2015 | 1:25 PM

The provincial government will be taken to court over the laundry services contract it signed with K-Bro Linen.

On Monday, the Saskatchewan division of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) plans to hold a press conference in Regina to announce it is pursuing legal action against the government. It’s aimed at uncovering a copy of the multi-million dollar contract it signed with Alberta-based K-Bro Linen.

In May 2013, the government announced it would be privatizing laundry service in Saskatchewan. In December 2013, it was announced that K-Bro Linen had been awarded the contract.

Privatization of the province’s laundry facilities has resulted in the closure of seven regional laundry facilities, including North Sask Laundry in Prince Albert — 75 jobs will be affected locally.
