More Saskatchewan residents heading to the U.S. for shopping trips

Heading down to the United States to go shopping is gaining in popularity with Saskatchewan residents.
Sean Best, communications officer with Canada Border Services Agency, says the number of people bringing stuff back was up in September from last year.
“In September 2009 there were 11,044 and in September 2010 there were 13,016,” he said.
Best says the most popular items being brought back are home renovation materials like lumber, cupboards and siding. That's likely due to the fact that lumber is duty free under the North American Free Trade Agreement.
Best says the most popular border crossing into the U.S. is at North Portal, just southeast of Estevan.
