James Kapacila, who attends Carlton Comprehensive High School, is competing in the 2015 Reebok Cross Fit Games Open.

He is currently ranked No. 1 in his age group of 16 to 17-year-olds.

The competition will last five weeks. Cross Fit athletes from around the world are eligible to compete.

There is a new workout each week for the athletes, and each workout comes in two parts.

For week one, the athletes were asked to record as many repetitions (reps) of an exercise move as possible within a nine-minute time limit. The exercises included 15 toe-to-bars, 10 dead lifts, and five snatches.

Kapacila recorded 209 reps during the nine minutes.

Part two of the workout was a max lift clean-and-jerk, a complicated series of movements that requires lifting a weighted bar above one’s head.

Kapacila was able to lift 265 pounds.

The next workout will be done on Friday.

Kapacila’s progress can be followed here
