The Prince Albert Mintos didn’t start off their Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League playoff journey the way they hoped.

The defending Telus Cup champions lost 5-1 to the Notre Dame Hounds Wednesday in Wilcox. With the loss, they’re down 1-0 in the first round, best-of-five playoff series.

Mintos forward Erik Gardiner scored just three minutes into the game as the Mintos stormed out of the gates. They led 1-0 after the first period and had a 15-6 advantage on the shot clock.

It was all Hounds after that, who scored five unanswered goals and outshot the Mintos 30-9 in the final 40 minutes of play.
