Tears from accused in Muskoday murder

Mar 2, 2015 | 11:11 AM

A young woman accused of murder on the Muskoday First Nation wiped tears from her eyes throughout a short court appearance.

Robyn Laura Ermine, 27, appeared by video from Pine Grove Correctional on Monday as her legal aid laid the groundwork for her to seek bail.

She’s charged with second degree murder of Evan Tylan Bear.

Bear was discovered with severe injuries that he later died from on the morning of Feb. 21.

Officials with RCMP stated Bear and Ermine knew each other before the incident that led to his death.

Lawyer Angus McLean requested a bail assessment for Ermine that includes looking into setting up electronic monitoring.

That kind of supervision requires a report.

Ermine’s father’s home in Sturgeon Lake was put forward to the judge as the place she would reside if released on bail.

Ermine wiped her eyes with tissue throughout the hearing, mentioning that her father was present in court.

About five people were in court for the hearing, some identifying themselves as family. However, they declined to comment to the media.

The path to a bail hearing is still a ways down the road.

First, Ermine will return to Prince Albert Provincial Court in three weeks after the report is created.

If they decide to seek bail, the nature of the charges mean the hearing will be at the Court of Queen’s Bench.
