Man charged in possible fake Oxy case seeking bail 2nd time

Feb 26, 2015 | 5:35 AM

The Prince Albert man arrested soon after police issued a warning about possible fake Oxycontin pills circulating in the city is seeking bail for the second time this year.

Police charged Gregory Klyne, 44, with possession for the purpose of trafficking after they executed a search warrant and found large quantities of four hard drugs in an East Flat home.

Klyne was arrested before that search, and made his first Prince Albert Provincial Court appearance on those charges on Wednesday. Still wearing street clothes, he consented to stay in custody.

Despite not yet having a representative through legal aid, Klyne made a request through a court worker to proceed with a bail hearing on Thursday.

He was arrested earlier this year – on Jan. 10 – after a traffic stop in the city. At the time, Prince Albert police said they found 34 grams of methamphetamine, 24.9 grams of cocaine, 28.6 grams of crack cocaine, 5.4 grams of ecstasy, and $2,685 in cash in that vehicle.

The Feb. 23 search warrant yielded 27.7 grams (g) of cocaine, 13.8 g of meth, 25.5 g of ecstasy and  and included 49 pills believed to be counterfeit Oxycontin.

Both arrests led to charges of possession of proceeds obtained by crime, but the Jan. 10 drug charges are for possession while the Feb. 23 incident alleges the drugs were meant to be sold.

He was released on conditions after the first charges were laid, but the Crown prosecutor is seeking to revoke Klyne’s bail and keep him in custody.
