Auntie rallies behind niece diagnosed with leukemia

Kim Buzit is doing something special for her family.

At the age of three Kim’s niece Harley was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia on Dec 8, 2014.

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is a cancer that happens when bone marrow makes too many immature white blood cells.

Harley’s mom Stephanie is a single mother of three who had just given birth to her third child the month before Harley’s diagnoses.

Now Kim is hosting a supper and dance fundraiser on Saturday in an effort to raise money to help with travelling to Saskatoon for Harley’s treatment.

“We’re going to Saskatoon all the time … it’s to help pay for gas, or if need be and Harley has to go into the hospital then at least [Stephanie] will have some funds for food or anything she needs along the way.”

She said it’s to provide support while Stephanie is on maternity leave.

Harley, along with her aunt or mom, travels to Saskatoon at least twice a week for treatment she can’t receive in Prince Albert.

“(Harley) recently went from regular leukemia risk to high risk, which means she needs a little more treatments. Last week she went four times and this week she goes for time, and after that we’ll play it by hear.”

The fundraiser will take place at Parkland Hall at 1510 Ninth Avenue West.

The night will feature dinner at 6 p.m. with a dance to follow at 8 p.m.

Music will be provided by Elite DJ’s and there will be door prizes, raffles and a silent auction.

Tickets for adults are $20, for kids over the age of six tickets are $10 and kids under five are free.
