Prince Albert gymnasts medal high, qualify for nationals

A group of women from the Prince Albert Gymnastics Club brought home the medals from their first competition of the year.

The 23 gymnasts were competing in the Marian ‘Shoot for the Stars’ invitational held in Saskatoon over the weekend. 

A few of the gymnasts were even able to qualify to represent Saskatchewan in various national events.

The Marian event was the first one of 2015 that the team attended as a full contingent.

Here are their achievements based on level at the competition:

Provincial Level 1 Argo

Charley Jones, second on beam, fifth all around
Emilie Johnson, third on bars, sixth on beam, sixth all around
Sarah L’Abbe, sixth on vault, fourth on bars

Provincial Level 1 Tyro

Aleigha Dagenais, second on bars, fourth on beam, sixth all around
Emma Sarabin, sixth on vault, sixth on bars
Relan Meeks, second on beam, fourth on floor

Provincial Level 2 Argo

Jai Li Harvey second on vault, third on floor, second all around
Zara Carter, first on vault, fourth all around
Piper Fontaine, second on bars
Jenna Tissen, third on vault, third on bars

Provincial Level 3 Argo

Sophie Tesar, first on bars, beam, floor and all around

Provincial Level 3 Tyro

Shelaine Pritchard, first on bars, second on beam and floor, first all around

Provincial Level 3 Open

Gabriella Antaya third on bars, second on beam, first on floor, third all around
Lacey Robbins, fourth on beam
Dilynn Bell, third on floor

Provincial Level 4 Tyro

Samantha Caisse, second on vault, third on bars and floor, second all around

Provincial Level 4 Open

Rebecca Gange, first on bars, third on beam, second all around
Kiera Beauchesne, third on bars, second on beam, third all around

National Novice

Serra Gillis, second on bars and beam

National Open

Hayden Gratias, second on vault and floor

Competing with the Saskatchewan team will be Sophie Tesar and Serra Gillis at the University of Calgary International Cup in March.

Hayden Gratias will attend the Gymnix International competition in Montreal in March.

Gymnasts with the club train 11 months a year between nine and 21 hours per week depending on their level.
