Jan 19, 2015 | 3:29 AM

The Prince Albert RCMP is investigating a homicide.

On Saturday afternoon around 2:15 p.m. officers received a call that there was a dead body on a snowmobile trail 15 kilometres northwest of the city.

When officers went to investigate they discovered the body of a First Nation’s woman, who was pronounced dead on scene by a coroner.

Investigation led police to identify the body as that of 28-year-old Monica Lee Burns from Prince Albert.

Officials report that her death is now being treated as a homicide.

Prince Albert RCMP have enlisted the support of Prince Albert Police Service, RCMP Forensic Identification Services from Prince Albert and Tisdale and RCMP Major Crimes North from Saskatoon.

An autopsy to determine the cause of death has been scheduled for Tuesday of this week.

Burns was living in Prince Albert, but grew on the James Smith Cree Nation.  She is a band member of Sturgeon Lake First Nation.

The RCMP is asking anyone with information to contact either Prince Albert RCMP at 306-765-5500 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

This is a developing story and we will have more details as they become available.
