Sask. Pen. inmate dies en route to hospital

Correctional Services officials have announced that an inmate from the Saskatchewan Penitentiary has died.

Darcy Charles Alexson, 50, reportedly died while en route to Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon.

Alexson was serving a two year sentence for convicted charges of possession of prohibited/restriced firearms with ammunition, possession of a weapon contrary to prohibition order, driving with more than 80 mg and possession of a schedule two substance on August 2013.

There is no word on what Alexson was being taken to hospital for.

Officials have notified next of kin in this matter.
