On Saturday, SaskPro Crossfit hosted their second annual December workout. During the event 48 people signed up to take part in five workouts over five hours.

“What we get is our community members, our athletes to donate five items to the food bank for each workout that they’re going to do over the five hours (on Saturday),” said Crossfit coach and donation organizer Janet Berezowski.

Berezowski said Crossfit wanted to collect food donations because the food bank is always in need of the extra support and it’s the time of year to help others.

“(We wanted to) give back to the people in our community that maybe just need a little bit of extra help, that’s what today is all about, it’s about really giving back to the community,” she said.

Co-Owner of the Prince Albert Food Bank, Wes Clark said through community support the food bank will be able to keep their services going throughout the year.

“We’ve definitely had the community rallying behind us and definitely with things like poverty and all of those types of issues, they are community issues,” he said. Clark said seeing all of the food donations “makes (him) proud to be a resident of Prince Albert.”

Crossfit still had a final heat to finish when the food was weighed so its possible more food will be donated to the food bank.
