Former councillor to become economic development manager

Dec 17, 2014 | 6:06 AM

The City of Prince Albert has a new manager of economic development.

Jayne Remenda will start her new job Jan. 9. Remenda is currently the executive director of Prince Albert Tourism. She is also well acquainted with the going-ons at city council, being a former city councillor herself.

“The good part about Jayne Remenda is that she is a local lady; she’s well experienced; she’s done a great job in economic development through tourism and destination marketing,” said Mayor Greg Dionne.

Dionne said when hiring for this position, they did not want to look outside the province.

“When it comes to economic development you’ve got to know about P.A. if you’re going to sell P.A.,” he said.

As one big job gets filled, another one comes open. Remenda will be leaving her current position at the tourism office.

Meanwhile, Monday night council meetings will feel a bit more crowded.

In addition to Remenda being hired, two other seats have been filled.

John Gunther is the City’s new director of economic planning and development.

Craig Guidinger, who had left City Hall to work for the province, returns as manager of planning.

Dionne says he looks forward to working with all three individuals, explaining he has lots of files he wants to move forward.
