In a time where health care concerns are often in the forefront, Saturday night was isntead about celebrating achievements and success.

The annual Saskatchewan Healthcare Excellence Awards were handed out at the Regina Inn.

Don Grant is with the Sherbrooke Maintenance Team in Saskatoon's Sherbrooke Community Centre. They won in the Stewardship and Sustainability category.

“Traditionally you don't think of maintenance when you talk about healthcare and it really does show that we can all make a difference,” he said.

Another winner was the Regina General Hospital's Perinatal Loss Committee in the category of Health of the Individual.

Their committee tries to make the best of a devastating situation for families whose babies die before or right after they're born.

Gail Rosseker with the committee says for them, just getting nominated validates the work they do.

“The work we do is special, we do it for families who need our support and that's what we're trying to provide,” she said.

The two other winners were Dorilda Piché with the La Loche Health Centre and Dr. Dennis Kendel, the CEO of the College of Physicians and Surgeons. They were selected from nine finalists.
