Man struck and killed by truck on northern First Nation

A 60-year-old man has died after being struck by a truck on a grid road on the Sturgeon Lake First Nation.

The man, who was from Sturgeon Lake, was walking eastbound on Sturgeon Lake Road on Tuesday night just before 6 p.m. when the truck hit him.

According to the RCMP, the man was walking in the middle of the road and the truck’s driver did not see him in time.

The driver of the truck, a 67-year-old man, stopped immediately to tend to the man while he called for emergency services.

Parkland Ambulance, the coroner from Prince Albert and the Sturgeon lake RCMP all responded. The man was declared dead at the scene.

His name will not be released at this time and the occupants of the truck did not require medical attention.

No charges are being laid, but the incident is still under investigation by the Sturgeon Lake RCMP and the RCMP collision reconstructionist.
