Tax increase may be coming

Prince Albert residents could very well be facing a tax increase next year.

The city has released its’ 2015 General Fund Budget document.

The proposed budget requires operating revenues of $68 million, which will require an increase in the General Municipal taxation and grants-in-lieu of taxation of approximately $1.1 million.

This represents a tax increase of roughly four per cent.

The biggest contributing factors to the increase are salaries and benefits, as well as the cost of utilities.

Salaries, wages and benefits will account for an impact of $1,077,500, while utilities will account for $286,970.

It is still very early in the process. City council has yet to review the budget, and they may choose to drop or add items. There will also be a public consultation period.

Budget talks are set to begin in two weeks.
