VIDEO: RCMP show chilling footage of Ottawa shooter

Oct 23, 2014 | 2:13 PM

On Thursday afternoon before 2 p.m., RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson and Ottawa Police Chief Charles Bordeleau spoke live about the Ottawa shooting that killed Cpl. Nathan Cirillo and locked down a significant portion near parliament for a whole day.

They are both confirming the shooter was 32-year-old Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, also saying there is no connection between Zehaf-Bibeau and Martin Couture-Rouleau, who drove over two soldiers in St-Jean-sur-le-Richelieu and later died.

They confirmed Zehaf-Bibeau acted alone and was responsible for both the National War Memorial and Parliament Hill attack.

At the conference they showed video of Zehaf-Bibeau approaching Parliament Hill from a car, which has been confirmed to belong to MP Michelle Rempel. Reports say the car was hotwired by Zehaf-Bibeau after he left a memorial which Cpl. Nathan Cirillo had been guarding. Cirillo was shot at that time and soon after died.

Bibeau quickly stopped the car in front of Parliament and exited. Video showed people approaching the car and running away after he got out and ran towards the building.

Paulson said United States media provided both accurate and inaccurate reports following the shooting.

He also stated Zehaf-Bibeau toted a 30-30 Winchester shotgun in the attack, and was prohibited from having a weapon of that type.

RCMP are saying a passport denial “figured prominently” in his actions on Wednesday.
