Throne Speech looks to keep Sask. strong

Oct 22, 2014 | 4:27 PM

The fall session of the Saskatchewan Legislature kicked off Wednesday, despite the attack on Parliament Hill.

Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Schofield stood in the assembly to deliver the speech, but only after she offered her condolences to the slain officer’s family. The assembly observed a moment of silence before the speech commenced.

The big focus this term for the SaskParty government is on keeping Saskatchewan “strong.” Several measures to support economic growth are outlined in the speech including a new tax incentive for manufacturers, continuing work to reduce trade barriers between provinces, and an increase in Adult Basic Education seats.

Several pieces of legislation will be presented this session including laws to better protect patient privacy, laws to widen the scope of the job for pharmacists, and laws to help lower wait times for those needing organ transplants.
