Herb Bassett Home lifts one of two visitor restrictions

Two units at the Herb Bassett Home in Prince Albert have been under a visitor restriction following an outbreak of a respiratory illness.

Now, the Prince Albert Parkland Health Region (PAPHR) has lifted those restrictions for the Golden Hill unit, one of two units under the restrictions.

Visitor restrictions are still in effect for the Lakeland Trail unit and residents of the Herb Bassett Home that are still showing symptoms are being isolated.

Until the outbreak is declared over visitors are being asked to reschedule their visits unless there is an urgent or compassionate reason for the visit.

Lab tests have come back and show that the outbreak is due to Entero-Rhinovirus.

Since the outbreak was declared, seven residents and one staff member became ill, showing symptoms like coughing and sore throats.

The PAPHR is reminding the public to use proper hand hygiene and cough etiquette to help reduce the spread of respiratory illnesses.
