Dreams come true for students and community

On Tuesday two students from the Carlton Comprehensive High school Drama Club, along with the mayor, proclaimed Oct. 15 to be a day of dreams and positive thinking. 

The Dreams Come True day is a way to celebrate student creativity and to promote Carlton’s production of Cinderella, taking place at the E.A Rawlinson Centre on Nov. 15 and Nov. 16.

David Zulkoskey, drama teacher at Carlton and director of the play, said he contacted the mayor about three weeks ago to have this take place. 

“These are future leaders of tomorrow, so it’s great for our leaders of today to recognize this little event today with the future leaders of our province and city,” he said.

Zulkoskey said this day is something positive for the students and the community.

“I just think it’s important that a positive mindset can certainly bring a positive atmosphere to our society and to our schools and certainly to our city,” he said.

Mayor Greg Dionne said he is supportive of the day and thinks it is an exciting program for students to take part in.  

“I really endorse it of course because it involves youth, so any time we can step forward and help youth out in our community, I think that’s positive,” he said.

Grade 12 student Malissa Paul will be playing the fairy godmother in the school’s production.  She said she has become more involved in the school and community over the years and is excited to be a part of the production and the Dreams Come True Day.

“It’s something that fits my own personal life and my own personal view, just the fact that doubt is going to kill your dreams much more than failure ever will and it’s just very important for people to be looking on their life in a much more positive sense,” she said.

She said the Dreams Come True Day is important to her and hopes the community gets involved.

“It’s a day to stop and take a second look at the beauty that surrounds you and to appreciate it and to stop and think about what is positive and what is good rather than what is negative and what is bad in your life,” she said.
