Teen faces more charges in apartment building fires

Sep 29, 2014 | 5:06 PM

More charges are being laid against a Prince Albert teenager.

On Friday Prince Albert Police Criminal Investigation Division charged a 14-year-old with two more counts of intentionally or recklessly causing damage by fire to property. This is in relation to two arsons that occurred July 10 and 17 at the Hilltop Towers apartment building.

The teen is already facing charges in relation to the fire on Aug. 26th at the same building that led to a multi-agency investigation.

He will make his next court appearance on Oct. 22 at Prince Albert Provincial Court.

Blaze causes thousands of dollars of damage

A fire on Friday has police looking for suspect(s).

Just after 9 p.m. Prince Albert police attended a vacant residence in the 800 block of 15th Avenue East for a structure fire.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze. According to fire officials, the rear door of the building was forced open before they showed up.

Police said a neighbour heard youth voices in the alley just before police and firefighters arrived.

The fire didn’t move beyond the upstairs, but caused tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of damage.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.

Police said the two incidents are unrelated and there is no apparent trend in youth-involved arsons.
