Walk to End Knife Violence next week in Saskatoon

Aug 28, 2014 | 11:55 AM

A Saskatoon man planned the “Walk to End Knife Violence” after his brother was killed earlier this year.

“This isn't about Dustin, this isn't about me, this isn't just about victims. This is about everybody here who thinks enough is enough,” said Chad Boulet in an interview with News Talk.

Dustin Boulet was celebrating his 29th birthday with friends at Bridges Ale House on March 1 when police were called to the parking around midnight after reports of a fight.

Boulet was stabbed while trying to defend a friend from a knife-wielding man. One man faces murder charges while another is charged with accessory after the fact.

“There's not a chance that me or my brother ever thought growing up in Parkridge Fairhaven that this would ever happen,” Chad said.

That is why he wants everyone in the community to be involved in the walk on Sept. 4. The group will gather in the Cowtown parking lot at 6 p.m. and head towards the bar where his brother was killed.

“In a lot of the bars there's no metal detectors, there's no screening. There's a lot of ways that people can prevent deaths and prevent accidents from happening,” Boulet said.

A police motorcade will lead the way and Boulet has sent invitations to local and federal politicians across the province to join the cause.

“We have to use our voice, we have to support each other whether you've been victimized or not because there's a very good chance it can happen to you.”
