Mini-Miracle brings talent to Prince Albert

Mar 1, 2011 | 5:24 AM

Concert-goers heard music echo through the halls when they arrived at the E.A. Rawlinson Centre Monday night as the performers tuned up for the fourth annual Mini-Miracle.

The Mini-Miracle is a concert set up not only to raise money for the upcoming Telemiracle in Saskatoon, but also to help prepare the musicians to play in front of an audience.

Jared Devers is the Prince Albert Kinsmen Club Telemiracle representative and membership director, and he said the event started small but they hope it grows in the years to come.

“We got approached four years ago by a gentleman who wanted to start this up and we just thought it was a great idea, so we went with it. It’s kind of slowly progressed as we’ve gone and hopefully it’ll become greater and greater in the future,” Devers said.

The Telemiracle fund is a great cause, “when you hear (the kids’ stories) and see their faces it makes it all worthwhile,” Devers said.

Admission to the event was free but there were raffles, donations and a silent auction including a signed guitar by Emerson Drive to raise money.

The seats in the Diefenbaker Theatre fairly shook as the audience roared with applause for every performance.

Gerry Nelson said he enjoyed the show last year and came again this year, but not just for the music.

“(I) feel it’s a worthy cause and so (I’ve) come to see a little entertainment and donate to the Telemiracle,” said Nelson.

It wasn’t just the viewers who were excited about the show, the performers were as well.

Janaya Trudel, a member of The Trudels, said Telemiracle is a great cause, and she’s glad to be a part of it.

A few of the performers on the bill were unable to make the stage Monday night, but the other musicians were only too ready to fill in.

All the local performers who will be at the Saskatoon Telemiracle such as Paul Lomheim, Darlene Tulletta and Dean Smith graced the stage.

Several of those on the bill are also set as national cast members including Matt Remenda, Kevin Arcand and country music star Donny Parenteau.

The musicians played several of their own songs, but they also pulled out a few old favourites like “Sweet Caroline,” “Rocky Mountain Way,” and “Hooked on a Feeling.”

Devers said he hopes the mini-marathon will soon turn into a kick-off for a full week of events leading up to the Telemiracle broadcast.

All the performers can also be caught at the Telemiracle event in Saskatoon Mar. 5 and 6.
