Jun 16, 2014 | 5:14 PM

A 29-year-old Nipawin man is in critical condition in a Saskatoon hospital after he was attacked in his home on Sunday morning after a confrontation.

Nipawin RCMP were called out to a home on Kingsway Drive at 5:15 a.m. and found the man suffering from severe head injuries. Paramedics took the man to Nipawin Hospital, and he was later airlifted to Saskatoon with what is being described as life-threatening injuries.

RCMP have arrested three people in connection to the incident.

Cynthia Kitchemonia, 34, and William Bignell, 40, both of Kamsack, were found at another Nipawin residence and were arrested. They have each been charged with break and enter and did commit aggravated assault and with aggravated assault.

Both have appeared in Melfort Provincial Court on Monday morning, and Kitchemonia will make her next court appearance on Thursday in Melfort. Bignell will make his next court appearance Wednesday in Nipawin.

A third man will be charged, but RCMP won’t identify him until he makes his first court appearance on Tuesday.

Staff Sgt. Barry Thomas said the incident is related to a confrontation that took place earlier that evening.

“It was a reaction from an earlier altercation,” he said on Monday. Other people were in the home at the time, but no one else was injured, Thomas said.

Thomas said the man had surgery at Nipawin Hospital and has had major surgery in Saskatoon.

“As it stands right now, he’s in very critical condition … The next two to three days are very important [to] his outcome.”
