A Saskatchewan man has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for killing his father and hiding his body.

Arnoldo David Rey Jr., 43, was initially charged with the second-degree murder of his 70-year-old father, Arnoldo Rey Sr. However, he pleaded guilty Monday to the lesser charge of manslaughter during what was scheduled to be the start of his preliminary hearing at Saskatoon Provincial Court.

Rey Jr. killed his father on July 26, 2012 and buried his body, which was found Oct. 28, 2013 on the property of Rey Sr. in the village of Krydor, Sask. According to police, he hadn't been seen for several months when he was reported missing just more than a year ago.

In addition to the 12-year sentence for manslaughter, Rey Jr. also received a one-year sentence for offering an indignity to a body. He'll spend 12 years, and 4.5 months in prison to account for the 7.5 months he spent in custody.
