Main break leads to more water woes for Sask Pen

Jun 3, 2014 | 5:16 PM

A water main break at 15th Street West and 15th Avenue West in Prince Albert on Sunday has led to more water-related problems for the staff and inmates at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary.

The water main broke at about 8:30 p.m. that evening, resulting in a significant reduction of water pressure at the Penitentiary.

A spokesperson for the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) said on Tuesday that the City of Prince Albert told them the problem should be fixed by Thursday.

In the meantime, staff and inmates are being given bottled water, and a water-haul truck is filling the Penitentiary’s reservoir with water to build up water pressure. Water is also being brought in for flushing toilets. Portable toilets are also being provided on site.
