Body found in river could be Myles MacIntosh

A body found in the river in the Melfort area could be a missing Saskatoon groom.

Myles MacIntosh, 28, fell through the ice of the South Saskatchewan river in Feb. 1 after being on a pub crawl for his bachelor party.

His soon-to-be bride's sister Kara Kohle said her family was contacted by the RCMP on Sunday and that officers said “that they believe it was Myles who they found in the river.”

RCMP Sgt. Craig Cleary confirmed that a body had been found and reported to the Melfort detachment, about 200 kilometres Northeast of Saskatoon.

“The identity of the remains located have not been confirmed,” Cleary said.

He added that they did not want to create a false hope for the family and friends of MacIntosh until it was identified.

“There is going to be an autopsy likely tomorrow,” he said adding that if conventional methods of identification fail then they will have to do a DNA comparison, which could take some time.

The body was located by a person who wasn't looking for it.

The night that MacIntosh went missing he had been asked to leave Outlaws Country Rock Bar after a disturbance.

From there, police believe MacIntosh was involved in a fight with 33-year-old Scott Russell Denny on the pub crawl bus at the intersection of Lorne Avenue and Eighth Street East. Police say they were called out to that incident, but MacIntosh had already left the scene on foot by the time they arrived.

Shortly after that, police received a separate report of a man falling into the river. That man is thought to have been MacIntosh.

Denny is now facing a charge of aggravated assault in connection to the fight on the bus.

Friends and family have been raising money to help with the search for MacIntosh's body and to send it back to his family in Nova Scotia if it is found.
