Car crash knocks out power to 1,300 Sutherland homes, businesses

As many as 1,300 homes and businesses in Sutherland woke up without power on Sunday morning after a car took out a power pole.

Around 7:45 a.m. a vehicle driving down a back alley on the 100 block of 111th Street West struck a power pole, knocking it over.

Police said that there were no injuries and they are still investigating.

The City of Saskatoon website said crews are switching customers to a temporary power supply where possible and repairing damage to the electrical equipment.

It said the entire pole will need to be replaced. They expect power to restored to most homes by noon, however 30 to 40 homes between 111th Street and 110th Street may be without power until as late as 4 p.m.
