Telemiracle 38 set to kick off Saturday night

Mar 1, 2014 | 10:40 AM

The final touches are being put on the production as Telemiracle 38 kicks off Saturday night in Regina at the Conexus Arts Centre.

A volunteer for 15 years, Clint Sckuratoff is now at the reins acting as chair for the 2014 installment of the telethon fundraiser, which features regulars Bob McGrath and Beverly Mahood once again.

“Even if you want to go to sleep, there's too much energy in the building,” Schuratoff said Friday during preparations. As chair, he spent the 2013 telethon shadowing the previous chair of Telemiracle.

“It's always ongoing, but it's a lot of fun because you know what the end result is going to be.”

Sckuratoff first took part in Telemiracle when he was around 19 years old. Growing up in the small town of Mossbank, he said he was just looking for something to do.

“I think (after) the second phone call, (I) was hooked.”

His wife now belongs to the committee that distributes the items bought with the proceeds of the telethon. Sckuratoff said the 'miracles' he gets to see inspire him to continue helping out.

“(At Regina's Hope's Home) they gave them some balls and just some sensory things so (the kids) could kind of get the same feelings that every-day kids do.”

Telemiracle 38 kicks off Saturday at 9 p.m. It is broadcast on CTV and runs until 5 p.m. Sunday.
