39 Steps provides some fancy footwork

Feb 7, 2014 | 5:25 AM

What do you get when you a mix a spy thriller, with a romance, and add a dash of Monty Python?

The answer is the latest play by Odyssey Productions, The 39 Steps.

The play running at the E.A. Rawlinson Centre is a spoof of the classic Alfred Hitchcock movie.

“High energy, hilarious, outrageous,” said actress Adreanna Boucher, when asked to describe the play in five words or less.

This is the first time the E.A. Rawlinson Centre has provided the backdrop for an Odyssey production.

“It's good to branch out into something different. I think we are going to attract a bit of a different demographic because there are people who attend shows at the Rawlinson that might not necessarily attend Odyssey shows, maybe they don't know about us or what not,” said Boucher.

Boucher has been with Odyssey for 12 years, and said her part in this play may be her most challenging yet. Boucher has not one or two characters to play, but three.

“For me a big challenge was the accents because three different countries, three different accents; and also making sure there is a big difference between each of the three characters, making them very defined,” she said.

The 39 Steps runs Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and students, and can be purchased at the E.A. Rawlinson Centre box office.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the curtain rising at 7 p.m.
