Regina band Rah Rah nominated for Juno Award

Feb 4, 2014 | 2:53 PM

Regina band Rah Rah has been nominated for a Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year for The Poet’s Dead.

“Speaking for myself I was pretty surprised and honoured really and everyone’s really excited,” said guitarist and vocalist Marshall Burns.

The Poet's Dead is up against Reflektor by Arcade Fire along with Today We’re Believers by Royal Canoe, Warring by The Darcys and Uzu by Yamantaka/Sonic Titan.

Burns says this has been a great year over-all for Rah Rah. After touring Germany the band came home to Regina to write songs for their next album.

“We toured so much for the last five years, pretty much constantly so that helps a lot,” he said

He credits the band's management and producers for helping to push this album to new heights through promotion for air play and tours.

“It’s the combination of those two things you know just working hard and having the right people helping you out, it’s paid off for us today,” Burns said.

Considering the stiff competition Burns admitted he’s not sure of their chances.

“We’re all big fans and admirers of the other bands that are nominated so it’s just an honour to be nominated in the same category as them really is something special,” Burns said. “I would be pretty shocked if we won it but I mean you never know.”

Other Saskatchewan artists nominated for Junos include: Little Miss Higgins for Best Roots and Traditional Album, George Leech for Aboriginal Album. Recording engineer pair Kevin and Kane Churko are also up for an award for the second year in a row.
