The man who nominated Guy Lonechild for Chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indians Nations is pulling his support.

“There are certain principles that we live by in the assembly and one of them has been broken. To come back and apologize after the fact is something … I have mixed feelings about,” said Beardy's Okemasis Chief, Rick Gamble.

Gamble said he had no idea Lonechild was facing DUI charges when he helped him get elected.

Gamble hasn't yet talked to Lonechild since the charge came to light, but said it's the secrecy around the charge that concerns him and many others.

“I'm the one that nominated him and had I known then that this had happened I wouldn't have nominated him. That's serious as far as I'm concerned,” said Gamble.

Despite his feelings, Gamble believes Lonechild should stay on until the next election.

He believes a by election would be a misuse of time when there are other more important issues to tackle.
