VIDEO/PHOTOS: Residents in PA speak up about city transit

Residents in Prince Albert are calling for changes to the city’s transit system.

The city has requested that First Canada, who owns the buses, take some time and look at how to improve the service.

paNOW wanted to see what the bus system is really like, so I caught the bus on Monday morning to experience the ride for myself.

On the bus, the seats were not comfortably padded and during each bump along the way, I felt as though I was going to fall out of my seat.

I spoke with residents about the quality of the transit system in the city and one resident said she wants the City of Prince Albert to step up and make some changes.

“I’d like to see a better service, a more comfortable bus service,” she said.

This user said the city buses are extremely uncomfortable to ride, especially if you are a senior or someone with special needs.

Another user, Rochelle Lennox, is a resident who relies solely on the bus to get her around. She doesn’t have a problem with the bus service but she wishes they would bring back one route.

“I just miss the night bus,” said Lennox.

Then there’s first-time bus rider Bonnie Peekeekoot. She said she thinks riding the bus is awesome — except for the wait times.

“I had to wait 45 minutes, standing in the cold,” said Peekeekoot.

These residents said its clear there needs to be changes to the bus service. However, not every bus rider had a complaint. One rider said he’s fine with the quality of the bus and waiting to catch it.

“I don’t have a problem waiting, I’m a patient person,” said one transit user.

A transit study based on the feedback from the general public, as well as post-secondary students, was completed last summer. This study is scheduled for discussion during the council meeting on Jan. 27.
