UPDATED: Murder charge laid in connection to Jodi Roberts’ death

Dec 12, 2013 | 8:55 AM

RCMP have charged a 27-year-old man with first-degree murder in connection to the death of Jodi Roberts.

Ricky Jonathan Ross of Sucker River was arrested on Wednesday and charged.

The search for Ross was short, said Sgt. Richard Price with the La Ronge RCMP.

Ross also faces a charge of offering an indignity to a body.

“Indignity to the body is basically leaving the body exposed or out in the open and leaving it there,” Price said.

Roberts, 24, was reported missing on Nov. 6 from Sucker River. Her remains were found near Sucker River on Nov. 27.

Ross was scheduled to appear in the La Ronge Provincial Court Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m.

The charges against him are the result of an investigation undertaken by the La Ronge RMCP with support from the RCMP Major Crimes North Unit.

“Following all the evidence we had and leads from Crime Stoppers tips, from evidence gathered, witness statements, and we just kept following the evidence and information we received until we were able to lay a charge this [Thursday] morning,” Price said.

With Ross already in the court system, Price explained their work isn't done yet.

“We still have a little bit of follow up investigation to do, make sure all our witnesses are spoken to and to do everything we can to ensure a successful prosecution in this case.

Members of Roberts family did not comment, but her sister had not been informed about the arrest until contacted by paNOW.
