Layoffs announced at Northern mines

More layoffs have been announced in Saskatchewan, just two weeks before Christmas.

Two hundred Golden Band workers will be out of a job come January now that the company has announced it is suspending operations in the La Ronge area.

Golden Band said it’s taking this measure to conserve limited cash.

It's blaming falling gold prices and ores that aren't as good a quality as it hoped for, for the shutdown.

The mine shutdown will begin in January.

This affects operations at the Roy Lloyd and Golden Heart mines as well as the Jolu Mill.

Last week, Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan announced it was laying off approximately 440 people in the province.
