Canes clip Raiders 3-1 in Lethbridge

Dec 7, 2013 | 6:24 AM

The Raiders outshot and out chanced the Hurricanes in every period. They did everything but out score the home side in a 3-1 loss in Lethbridge.

The game remained scoreless until Russell Maxwell deflected a Macoy Erkamps shot from the point at 16:53 of the second period. The goal sent hundreds of teddy bears flying out of the stands in the annual gift giving game.

They took the second period intermission at that point and when play resumed the Raiders pressed the Hurricanes until the buzzer. However, it was Lethbridge who would score just past the one-minute mark of the third period. Tyler Wong redirected a point shot after a face-off victory in the Prince Albert zone.

The Raiders started playing with desperation and finally beat Hurricanes goalie Tegan Sacher on a Dakota Conroy deflection of a Dylan Busenius shot at the midway point of the final frame.

The Raiders kept the Hurricanes pinned down for most of the period with several excellent chances to tie the game. Reid Gardiner and Jaden Hart had back to back point blank attempts to no avail.

Riley Sheen finally put the game away with an empty net goal at 18:55.

The Raiders outshot Lethbridge 32-20 with Nick McBride taking the loss. Prince Albert had the only two power plays of the game.

Leon Draisaitl picked up an assist on the Conroy goal to extend his pint streak to five games.

Josh Morrissey and Mike Winther sat out due to injuries. Winther is likely out for several weeks while Morrissey is day to day.

The Raiders wrap up their five game road swing Saturday night in Medicine Hat. Game time is 8:30 p.m. in Saskatchewan with 900 CKBI coverage beginning at 8:05.
