Plows clearing ice on major roads, emergency routes

Nov 12, 2013 | 3:01 PM

Snow-clearing crews are back out on Prince Albert’s major arterial roads and emergency routes to clear the ice that's building up.

This week’s warm up is being seen as an opportunity to work to clear the ice build-up on Priority 1 streets. Last week, the cold weather that followed the wet snowfall created the ice build-up, and made it difficult for crews to remove snow.

“It’s the ideal time because you can clear ice with much less effort when the temperatures are warmer,” roadways manager Brent Kennedy said in a statement. “If we ignore it, we will be fighting the ice all winter. It’s a good opportunity to get it done early in the season.”

After the city finishes clearing the ice on Priority 1 streets, they’ll continue clearing operations on the priority schedule.
