Ship at port after Cameco spill

Jan 22, 2011 | 9:44 AM

A Cameco cargo ship carrying uranium is back in port after an on board spill at sea.

The vessel was on its way to China when it happened upon bad weather. Some drums carrying uranium concentrate fell to the floor in the jostling.

Rob Gereghty, with Cameco, said none of the crew were ever at risk.

“The risk is really associated with inhalation. People who work with the product, people up in Key Lake, they typically would wear a respirator, so you have to get pretty close to the product in order to be anywhere at risk,” he said.
