Wakaw residents rally for hospital

In less than a year, the town of Wakaw has gone from having four doctors to none.

The last doctor is leaving next month, putting the future of Wakaw's hospital in limbo.

Townspeople just found out earlier this month that the hospital could close if more doctors aren't found.

“When a group of people heard that, they are saying this can’t be – we need to get involved,” said Fay Michayluk who is speaking for a group of the residents.

They are planning a rally today.

“We know that recruitment of physicians is not going to happen overnight and we know, that also, if our hospital is closed we will have a heck of a time trying to get it reopened,” she said.

Michayluk said they hope the Saskatoon Health Region cycles in temporary doctors to give them time to find permanent physicians.
