Gene Makowsky re-signs with Saskatchewan Roughriders

Gene Makowsky will have to balance his commitment to the Roughriders and his aspirations in politics.

He has announced another year as one of the team's offensive lineman, but he is also the Saskatchewan Party's star candidate in the November election.

The all-star veteran admits “it will be a challenge, but I am up for it and I am looking forward to it.”

But he admits it does mean he will have to spend time away from the campaign trail. He'll be playing or have to go straight from morning training to door-knocking in the afternoon and evening.

His NDP opponent, veteran Kevin Yates, will take full advantage of that.

But Makowsky thinks he can get the job done.

“We are assembling a good team right now and I think we got a great group of people to help me out.”

He'll find out if he blocked the competition Nov. 7.
