Alvin Buckwold to undergo psychiatric evaluation

Jul 23, 2013 | 11:50 AM

The man facing a second-degree murder charge in connection with the death of well-known Saskatoon lawyer Ian Buckwold will undergo a court-ordered psychiatric assessment.

Alvin Buckwold, 31, will go through the 30-day evaluation at Saskatchewan Hospital in North Battleford to determine if he is fit to stand trial.

The evaluation will also determine if he was suffering from a mental illness at the time of the crime that would exempt him from criminal responsibility.

The assessment order was handed down during his second appearance at the Saskatchewan Provincial Court in Prince Albert on Tuesday morning. Buckwold was also ordered to undergo a toxicology screen.
