Local family volunteers services to help flooded families

Jun 25, 2013 | 12:27 PM

A business based out of Prince Albert is providing its services for free to help desperate families in Calgary.

Boreal Vac and Pressure Services is helping remove the water from flooded basements.

“My brother who owns a truck, lives out in Cochrane. He had his hydro-vac sitting in Saskatoon, and another unit sitting in Prince Albert, and they weren't doing anything so he called me on his way out to pick up his one unit and asked if I would drive one back,” said Jason Field.

Jason Field and his teenaged son Cody would then head back to Calgary with Jason's brother Trent.

They have been in Calgary since Saturday, and have been through about 40 homes so far.

“Most basements we walk into will still have a foot of water sitting in the basement,” said Trent Fields, who owns the business.

There is now a glimmer of hope. Trent said the sewer system isn't as overloaded now so water levels have dropped a bit, making their job a little easier.

As for when they might return home, Jason Field said he couldn’t be sure.

“When the three of us got going here, we were going to do what we could do in a day but every day that goes by there is just an endless need for help,” he said.

Trent's wife is helping families in a different way.

She has been helping feed the needy families in the Elbow and Mission areas.
