Coben wins third-straight Senior Men’s Lobstick

Jun 6, 2013 | 10:01 PM

Colin Coben finished first overall at the Senior Men’s Lobstick in Waskesiu—this is not a recording.

Thursday’s championship was Coben’s third consecutive Senior Men’s Lobstick victory, something he takes pride in.

“It’s a great tournament and I’m proud to be the champion,” said Coben. “It feels awesome. It’s a special place up here and all these guys, there’s tons of good players.

The deadeye from Delisle shot a 77 on opening day Tuesday, but finished strong with a 70 on Day 2 and a 71 Thursday to finish first in the Championship Flight and the tournament to finish with a three day total of 218.

Coben beat Jim Scissons and Rick Hillestad (last year’s runner-up) by two strokes. He had a lot easier of a time last year, beating the field by nine.

“I had to work for it (this year),” said Coben. “I didn't play a very good first round, shot 77, but I played really good yesterday and played really good today.”

Like he has for a number of years, Coben will compete at the Men’s Lobstick in Waskesiu as well, which takes place next week June 10-15.

Last year, Coben ran into Regina’s Cadmus Delorme in the first round of match play, who ended up winning both the match play and the open part of the tournament.

Coben hopes yet another Senior Men’s Lobstick victory can help him next week.

“I hope so,” chuckled Coben. “It’s match play but I feel like I can play with any of them.

“I ran into a buzzsaw last year when I played Cadmus in the first match, he played really good. Hopefully I can have a better qualifying round and not play the number one seed, maybe be the number one seed.”
