Jun 5, 2013 | 4:45 PM

The Law Enforcement Torch Run kicked off in Prince Albert Wednesday with runners visiting schools across the city.

Officials from men’s corrections, women’s corrections, Sask. Penitentiary, the Prince Albert Police Service, conservation officers and the RCMP pulled on their running shoes and met at City Hall Wednesday morning.

The officials visited schools that helped raise money for the Special Olympics.

“We’re doing our annual run to all the different schools that helped out with hot dog sales over the springtime,” said Stephen Hug, the chairperson for the Law Enforcement Torch Run in Prince Albert.

“We’re going to 12 different schools and they’ve raised over $3,500 dollars for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.”

When they got to each school, the runners join students running the Law Enforcement Torch around the school’s track.

On top of the money the schools have raised, the Torch Run organization has also been working hard to raise money year-round for the Special Olympics.

“It’s ongoing all year round, we’re enforcement officers that raise money for Special Olympics for Saskatchewan,” said Hug, adding there are many events like Bingo and special dinners the organization puts together. “At the end of the year we’ve raised $35,000 for Special Olympics Saskatchewan.”

Between schools, the runners were followed by the Raiders tour bus as well as a Prince Albert Police Service escort.
