Remembering ‘Mr. Prince Albert’

Jun 3, 2013 | 1:07 PM

His passion and his enthusiasm for life knew no boundaries.

Cecil Corrigal was a true ambassador for Prince Albert, and so it is no surprise he was nicknamed “Mr. Prince Albert.”

Corrigal was 89 when he died Sunday night.

“When you thought of Cec Corrigal, you always had to think about the clothes he wore. Uncle Cec was always the type of guy that would wear the loud jackets,” said close friend Fred Matheson.

In addition to his successful fur business in downtown Prince Albert, Corrigal was a powerful motivational speaker who helped thousands of people.

Matheson recalled that his friend once told him he had been on almost every stage worldwide.

“He could make you laugh and cry and stand up, it was really amazing to listen to him speak,” said Matheson.

Former Prince Albert Mayor Jim Scarrow also considered Cecil Corrigal a close friend.

“It is a great loss, a life extremely well lived,” said Scarrow.

Scarrow recalled that Corrigal was always very proud that he served in the Second World War. After the war, he ran a successful fur business in downtown Prince Albert.

“When you thought of Cec you really thought of the fur industry. He gave numerous fashion shows, and appeared on television with fashion shows on a weekly basis. He was widely recognized as one of the leading fur retailers in the industry,” said Scarrow.

Corrigal was named Prince Albert Citizen of the Year in 1984.

A funeral will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church.
