Ward 1 readies for annual outdoor cleanup

Residents of all ages will be taking part in the fourth annual community clean up in Prince Albert`s Ward 1 May 21 – 24.

The event is organized by Coun. Charlene Miller will have participants picking up trash and trimming trees and hedges in the ward now that the spring melt has revealed litter and debris along roadways and in yards.

Students in Grades 4 and 5 at Queen Mary Community School will be helping out with the clean up during the afternoons on those days.

“Normally, what I do, I take them down 15th, 14th Street,” Miller said. Adults are also invited to attend.

She said that turn out has been pretty good over the years.

Her husband and his crew also take part, picking up furniture, then bringing those to the landfill and then transporting appliances to McDonald Metals.

To help out, local dignitary Malcolm Jenkins will be donating gloves and trash bags for the event, which begins at Parkland Hall at 9 a.m. and wraps up at 3 p.m.
