UPDATED/VIDEO: McHappy Day smiles on Prince Albert

May 8, 2013 | 4:19 PM

McDonald`s Restaurants across Canada celebrated McHappy Day on Wednesday, raising funds for various children's charities.

McHappy Day comes once a year, and it`s when $1 from McCafe beverage items, Happy Meals and Big Macs go towards charity.

In Prince Albert at the Cornerstone McDonald's, Parkland Ambulance paramedics pitched in at lunch time, washing customers' car windows at the drive-thru.

Parkland Ambulance's Lyle Karasiuk was at the drive-thru pay window collecting change for donations.

“McHappy Day is just a great event, I mean, all the money goes towards Ronald McDonald Children`s Charities. One most important charity for them is Ronald McDonald House in Saskatoon,” he said.

“We see lots of sick kids, and their families need all the support that we can give them so this is some way that we can take an hour out of our day and just simply … be helpful in the community and have a great time.”

Parkland Ambulance helped to raise $341.80.

Inside the restaurant, manager Brad Hayes said they had a good turnout for McHappy Day. He said they support the Ronald McDonald House in Saskatoon.

“A lot of people, especially from the North and Prince Albert here, take part in and use the house,” he said.

“It`s a great support for families and children that are sick and that need to use the house.”

And on the other side of the city at the Second Avenue West McDonald`s, the Prince Albert Fire Department held a car wash of their own to help support McHappy Day.

In all, seven members of the PAFD took part and raised a total of $525.
